Microsoft Wants to Bring the Latest Call of Duty to Game Pass

Microsoft is said to be planning to release the latest Call of Duty for the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, which will be announced at the Xbox 9 event next June.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, it is not yet known whether Microsoft will charge additional fees for the Game Pass subscription to be able to play the latest Call of Duty.

However, what is clear is that Activision -- which has now been acquired by Microsoft -- usually sells Call of Duty at prices starting from USD 70 or around IDR 1.1 million. The number of sales is no joke, reaching an average of 25 million copies.

For Activison, Call of Duty is one of their most successful products in history, and in total -- according to Statista -- it has generated revenue of more than USD 30 billion.

After being acquired by Microsoft, Activision Blizzard immediately boosted Microsoft's income in the games business. The entry of Activision Blizzard caused revenue from Windows to drop, because Microsoft's gaming division is now the 3rd largest revenue generator, overtaking revenue from Windows.

Microsoft's Gaming segment contribution reached USD 7.11 billion, while Windows "only" USD 5.26 billion. Of course, it is still far behind Office and cloud revenues, which amounted to USD 13.47 billion and USD 23.95 billion respectively.

Activision previously scheduled the launch of the latest Call of Duty at the end of October. Reportedly, the latest Call of Duty will take the theme of the Gulf War which occurred in the 1990s.

Microsoft itself is scheduled to hold a summer showcase event for Xbox on June 9, and Call of Duty will get its own event after the main event ends.

Apart from Call of Duty, Microsoft also plans to release a new Gears of War game, and will showcase a number of other games such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Avowed, and Indiana Jones and The Great Circle.
